Spent a little time with Mike Trasente this afternoon. We took a stock AW Xtraction chassis, lapped the gears, and put some Super Tires on the rear. The tires were their Tyco 438s. We were turning 5 second laps on a 63 foot track. Not too shabby for an "AW Pancake"
We had to improvise the lapping compound so we used tooth paste and Turtle Wax polishing compound and mixed them together. The Turtle Wax was too thin by itself so we added tooth paste to thicken it up. We lapped the gears going forward for 10 minutes and then going backward for 10 minutes. Cleaned it up with water and a tooth brush, dried everything with a blow dryer, put it back together, oiled that puppy and then start turning laps. initially the laps were averaging around 6 seconds but the more we ran it the faster it got. We ended up turning 5 second laps on a 63 foot track.
