Street Rod

I had purchased some Dash Hot Rod bodies at a good price and so the thinking process began. After some research on the web it became clear as to what I wanted to do. The great thing about this little project is I have several options as to what to build... a street rod, a dirt modified racer, or a salt flats racer. I will probably do all three eventually.

After some thought I decided to try a street rod first. The first thing I did was to make a coupe top to fit the Dash Hot Rod Body. The top will use the existing holes in the body that located the roll bar in the rear and the window frame in the front. Below you will see the top. This top will be my mold master. I will pour a mold of this top so I can replicate it. The top can be used in the future to rehab other Hot Rod bodies that have fallen into disrepair.

I took the Dash body and stripped, cleaned, filled it.

Getting it together... will sand and do the final polishing.

After priming the car and top, I laid down two colors. I thought I would use a couple of popular colors from the 1950's... Coral and Ghost Gray.

Now all that is left to do is to lightly sand with 4000 to 6000 grit sand paper. That will help clean up the paint lines. Add a little silver on the front grill. Spray a couple of coats of high gloss clear to add depth to the colors.
